Current Theme: Aid, Art, & Advocacy

Each year, the Humanitarian Collaborative chooses a central theme to guide our research. Currently our focus is on Aid, Art, & Advocacy. The question we are asking is, “How might we more effectively use visual imagery and advocacy to drive global compassion and action in the field of Humanitarian Aid?”

‘Advocacy’ and ‘communication’ campaigns using visual media have become one of the core functions of global humanitarian response organizations. While definitions vary, in general the objectives are to call for attention and/or action by governments and individuals to alleviate suffering before, during, and after humanitarian crises. Yet a multitude of unanswered questions on how to most effectively accomplish this goal remain.

We have built a team and hosting both humanitarian advocacy events as well as research projects to help us find new answers to long-standing challenges.
