After an earthquake, children need more than just basic services

The devastating earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria affected some of the most vulnerable people in the world, especially young children. More than 11,000 have died, including thousands of children. We have seen images of children being pulled from the wreckage, injured in hospitals, and huddled on the streets in the cold. Because the earthquake occurred around 4am local time, families were asleep and struggled to quickly get out to safety. One girl was found on her bed crushed by concrete, her grief-stricken father holding her hand sticking out of the rubble. Some have been separated from their families and many are homeless and at risk of abuse and exploitation. For all, the event compounded ongoing crisis.
